Interpreter #2 is a renewed version of Interpreter #1, continuing the exploration of communication, perception, and the nuances of listening. This latest iteration was first exhibited at the LAST Art Project gallery in Shanghai, where it remains on display until the end of February. Under the overarching theme “Pause. Then Perceive.”, Interpreter #2 invites viewers to slow down, observe, and reconsider the way we engage with information and each other.
Interpreter #2는 Interpreter #1의 발전된 형태로, 소통과 인식, 그리고 듣기의 미묘한 차이를 탐구하는 작업을 이어간다. 이 작품은 상하이에 위치한 LAST Art Project 갤러리에서 처음 전시되었으며, 2월 말까지 전시가 계속된다. “Pause. Then Perceive.”(멈추고, 그 후 인식하다)라는 주제 아래, Interpreter #2는 관객들에게 속도를 늦추고, 주위를 관찰하며, 정보와 타인과의 관계를 새롭게 바라볼 기회를 제공한다.
This piece retains the essence of its predecessor—64 warm white bulbs arranged in an 8x8 grid on a wooden box reminiscent of an old television—yet it removes the floor-laid wires, offering a more compact and refined presentation. The work silently displays single letters and symbols, encouraging viewers to decode meaning and engage in a form of contemplation often overshadowed by the noise of modern life.
이 작품은 이전 버전의 본질을 유지하면서도 더욱 정제된 형태로 발전되었다. 8x8 격자로 배열된 64개의 따뜻한 백색 전구가 구형 텔레비전을 연상시키는 나무 박스에 장착되어 있으며, 바닥에 깔린 전선을 제거하여 더욱 단순하고 세련된 형태를 갖추었다. 이 작품은 문자와 기호를 하나씩 조용히 표시하며, 현대 사회의 소음 속에서 종종 간과되는 의미를 해독하고 깊이 있는 성찰을 유도한다.
By stripping away excess, Interpreter #2 highlights the passive yet profound experience of consuming information. It challenges the audience to embrace stillness, to recognize the messages hidden within silence, and to cultivate a deeper awareness of the world around them.
불필요한 요소를 배제함으로써, Interpreter #2는 정보 소비의 수동적이지만 깊이 있는 경험을 강조한다. 이 작품은 관객들에게 고요함을 받아들이고, 침묵 속에 숨겨진 메시지를 인식하며, 주변 세계에 대한 더 깊은 이해를 키울 것을 제안한다.
This installation, much like the “Pause. Then Perceive.” series as a whole, serves as both an artwork and a statement—a reminder that in a world of constant communication, true understanding often begins in the moments of quiet reflection.
